Coming up on today's show:

  • Robin Wright, contributing writer and columnist for The New Yorker and distinguished scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center, joins to discuss the latest developments in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, including whether there's a real threat behind Russian President Vladimir Putin's nuclear sabre rattling.
  • Kate Ascher, professor of urban development at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), former assistant director of the Port at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the author of The Works: Anatomy of a City (Penguin Press, 2005) and other books on infrastructure, quizzes the listeners and provides some history and context on local infrastructure and how the city works.
  • Margaret Atwood, author short stories, essays and novels, including The Handmaid's Tale, and her latest collection, Burning Questions: Essays and Occasional Pieces, 2004 to 2021 (Doubleday, 2022), talks about her response to Jennifer Senior's take on friendship in middle-age and how things change with friends as we get even older, plus her latest book.
  • For this membership drive, we'll feature a ten minute deep dive on a different species found in New York City waterways, and the ecological issues that impact them. Up next, Agata Poniatowski, outreach and engagement manager at the Billion Oyster Project shares some facts about the spider crab, how waterfront access has impacted the species, and offers some solutions.
